July 9th: Durango, Hard Rock 100 Race

We were socked in by clouds when we awoke this morning:

We met Steve Campbell out here thru a mutual friend from Garland, TX.

 The Hard Rock 100 endurance race started Friday morning at 6:00 a.m.   This year, the course was run in the counter-clockwise direction - a big loop through the San Juan Mountains of beautiful southwest Colorado: 100-miles plus 33,992 feet of climb and 33,992 feet of descent for a total elevation change of 67,984 feet with an average elevation of 11,186 feet - low point 7,680 feet (Ouray) and high point 14,048 feet (Handies Peak.  The race headquarters was moved from the high school (it is being renovated) to the community center so we kind of forgot about it and didn't wake in time Saturday morning to see the first place winner come in at just over 25 hours.  Here's a runner coming in later Saturday.  Their time is not recorded until they kiss the rock.

And, we are so glad the Linda, Larry & Brett have finally arrived.  We can always depend on Brett building a fire every evening . . . even in the rain!
